Is Reddi Wip Keto Friendly? [And Other Great Alternatives]

I don't know about you, but I did all sorts of things as a kid I couldn't fathom doing now. Every time we had any canned products in the house like Reddi Wip or even cheese whiz, I would spray it directly into my mouth. Gross? Maybe… but when you're 8 years old, you do all sorts of gross stuff. I know I can't be the only one, but is Reddi wip keto friendly?

Reddi Wip is low carb and may be consumed while following a keto diet. One serving of Reddi Wip original, equal to two tablespoons or 5 grams, has only 1 gram of net carbs. However, the Reddi Wip Barista series is higher in carbs with 6 and 7 grams of net carbs per serving.

In this article, I'll discuss why you may or may not want to use Reddi Wip on your ketogenic diet, how many carbs are in each variety of Reddi Wip, alternatives, and even how to make your own version of whipped cream that is more keto-friendly.

Can You Use Reddi Wip On Keto?

It's perfectly acceptable to have a serving or two of Reddi Wip while following a ketogenic diet.

Reddi Wip is relatively low in carbohydrates, and as long as you're mindful of the serving size and the amount you use, there's no reason why you couldn't enjoy some while following keto.

Achieving and maintaining a metabolic state of ketosis is solely predicated on the number of carbohydrates you consume.

Meaning, restrict carbohydrates enough, regardless of where it comes from, and your body will start producing ketones and burning fat as its primary fuel source.

How Many Carbs Are In Reddi Wip?

A single serving of the majority of Reddi Wip varieties contains 1 gram of carbs per serving. According to the nutrition facts, one serving of Reddi Wip is equal to 2 tbsp (5g).

However, their barista line of creams contains a relatively more substantial amount of carbohydrates.

Many people often don't realize how very little that may be, but that's essentially about a generous 1-second spray of the nozzle.

If you have a heavy hand and eyeball a serving size, chances are you're probably consuming more than you think. Eyeballing portion sizes may often lead you to consume a lot more carbohydrates than you had assumed and kick you out of ketosis.

When enjoying products like Reddi Wip on keto, it may be useful to use a food scale to measure what a serving looks like accurately.

Once you have a good idea of how much 2 tbsp (5g) looks like, eyeballing a serving size could be a feasible option.

Dies Reddi Wip have sugar? Yes, Reddi Wip products do contain small amounts of sugar per serving.

Is Reddi Wip Healthy?

Depending on who you ask, “healthy” could mean a variety of things.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948, health is defined as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. 1

In 1986, WHO updated its definition of health as “A resource for everyday life, not the object of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities.” 2

Confusing huh?

As my mom always used to say, everything in moderation, even moderation.

Assuming your diet is already filled with a nutritious micronutrient-rich whole-foods, a little bit of Reddi Wip is perfectly acceptable.

However, you don't want to waste your carb allowance every day on some Reddi Wip. The majority of your carbohydrates should be coming from sources like vegetables, but I didn't have to tell you that.

In regards to the ingredients, there are no ingredients found in Reddi Wip that have been scientifically proven to be detrimental to your physical health.

Again, moderation is key, and within the context of a whole-foods based nutrient-dense diet.

Is Whipped Cream ok For keto?

If you're looking for a whipped cream to use on keto, I highly recommend making your own. You'd be surprised by how simple it is to make your own whipped cream.

Of course, if you have a stand mixer like a Kitchen Aid, it will make life a lot easier.

Heavy Whipping Cream, which is generally used for whipped cream is keto friendly. It's when companies start to add in different types of sugar that whipped cream starts to get questionable.

How To Make Your Own Keto-Friendly Whipped Cream

Heavy whipping cream for keto friendly whipped cream

As I stated previously, making your own whipped cream Is quite simple, literally takes about 5 minutes. Even I was surprised at how easy it was to make my own whipped cream.

To make your Keto-Friendly Whipped Cream, it only takes 3-ingredients, maybe two, if you want to keep it even more straightforward.

For keto whipped cream, you will need:

  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract (if you want)
  • 1 tbsp. Sweetener of your choice (I use Swerve or Stevia)

Add all the ingredients to a bowl and with a cheap handheld mixer like this one or stand mixer begin to mix until soft peaks form; about 2 minutes. Make sure not to overbeat your whipping cream unless you want to end up with the consistency of butter.

That's it.

Enjoy it all on its own or serve your keto friendly whipped cream with some fresh berries for a tasty dessert.

It's best to serve the whipped cream immediately or feel free to make it an hour or two ahead of time and store it in the fridge.

To make it even fancier, you could use a whipped cream dispenser like the one here.

Feel free to get creative with your whipped cream and try different flavors and extracts to make a more keto-friendly version than the store-bought varieties.

Are There Any Keto Whipped Cream Brands?

Maybe a little D.I.Y. isn't your thing, but that's ok. Here are a few keto-friendly whipped cream brands you may be able to snag at your local grocery store.

Assuming you want an alternative to Reddi Wip, here are a few brands that are generally available:

  • Land-O-Lakes

The Takeaway

Reddi Wip could be fit into a ketogenic diet in moderation, remember, a single serving is considered 2 tbsp (5g), so a little bit goes a long way.

If you're mindful of your serving size and don't get carried away, you should be good to go.
